1896: Labor Advocate, 19 September

by Steve Taylor last modified 2005-01-12 12:32 PM

1896, a collection of political cartoons from the watershed presidential campaign that marked America's transition to the twentieth century. Cartoons from around the country and from three parties in the election--Republican, Democratic, and Populist--with party platforms, contemporary comment, and explorations of campaign themes.

Labor Advocate, 19 September, 1896

How They Love the Farmers. The anti-Bryan Press of the East is just now caricaturing the farmers of the West in a most discraeful manner. The honest toiler is held up to ridicule and pictured as a wild eyed lunatic, incapable of reasoning on the questions of the day. The above sketches are taken from recent issues of gold standard papers whose publishers are no doubt being well paid for the nefarious work they are doing. The farmers of the West and South will keep these pictures in mind on election day.
