Welcome to one of the most dynamic and transformative periods in U.S. history, an era that ushered in many of the highlights and conflicts of modern American life. The materials gathered here, an array of images and documents from the critical decades between the end of the U.S. Civil War and the dawn of the twentieth century, are designed to complement New Spirits: Americans in the Gilded Age, written by Rebecca Edwards and published in 2006 by Oxford University Press.
